Dear parents,
It was the beginning of our new academic session 2014-2015.
Kids were happy and excited to enter their new classrooms and meet their new teachers.
Our Unit of Inquiry:
Learning objective- Tuning in for the first unit 'Healthy Choices'.
Learning engagement-
- Students sorted pictures related to their unit (based on their previous knowledge).
- Discussion of the activity.
Learning objective- Breaking up of the Central idea.
Learning engagement-
- Students were divided into groups. They discussed the key terms and came up with their own definition.
- Mind maps on key terms.
Learning objective- To differentiate between habit and routine.
Learning engagement- Students sorted given pictures based on their own life experience. They then came up with their own definition of the two terms.
Learning objective- To identify different food groups.
Learning engagement- Students watched videos related to the topic and sorted food items according to the different food groups.
In Mathematics:
Learning objective-To review the number system- number names, place value, ascending and descending order, ordering numbers.
Learning engagement-
- Students played games which helped them to recapitulate the concepts learned.
- Hands on activity with manipulative to understand the concept of place value better.
- Beginning of the year assessment was taken.
In Language:
Learning objective-
- Reading- To recognize the varied purposes for reading.
To identify qualities they have as readers and read books of their choice for increasing periods of time (reading stamina).
Learning engagement-
- Discussion on the purpose of reading, qualities of a reader, reading stamina.
- Students made a mind map related to the topics discussed.
- Writing- To understand the qualities of a good writer.
Learning engagement-
- Students discussed about who they are as writers and made a mind map.
- Students set up their own reading and writing goals.
