Hello grade 2 parents,
It has been a pleasure to get to know your students these first few weeks of school! We have been working on building our sense of community by singing songs that help us get to know each other's names, establishing essential agreements as a grade level, and learning new songs and games to start the year off together. A safe and friendly community is essential for making music and growing together. The first unit of inquiry we will be exploring is melody and vocal exploration. The central idea inquires into "The voice is a powerful expressive instrument." Through this unit, the students will be exploring their voices and gaining a better understanding singing and melodic notation. Some of the songs we have been singing are "Doggie Doggie" and "Lucy Locket." Another class favorite is called "Jump Jim Joe," and the students have really enjoyed partnering with each other during this song. Here is the link for 2D's performance of this song.
