In grade 2 music, we have been looking at all kinds of patterns! Melody patterns, rhythm patterns, form, dance and movement, and we are starting to look at how music uses these patterns and sound patterns to create certain feelings. We have also just discovered our next melody note: La! La is higher than so, and unlike mi which is a skip below so, la is only a step above so. We will be getting into more details about la and where la lives as we practice using it in our various songs from music class.
Our latest class activity has been doing a short music composition using different forms the students choose. Whatever rhythm patterns they create must go with the form they choose, and then they have to perform it for a partner and for me. Once they finish, they can add melody names as well.
