Unit of Inquiry

Learning objective:

To identify, explain and use different tools that help us learn about patterns.  
To understand the differences between the various tools and the data that they record.

  • Explored the different tools that measure temperature and wind speed.
  • Discussed the different tools and their uses.
  • Visited the local beach to record the temperature and wind speed (hands on experience).
  • Made first hand observations and recorded the data, contrasted and compared the results.

To continue to compose and decompose 2 dimensional shapes.
To continue to compare various shapes and their attributes.

  • Further explored 2 dimensional shapes in class.
  • Continued to use manipulatives to compose 2 dimensional shapes.
  • Continued to decomposed a given shape into different shapes by cutting and pasting  (hands on).

Language Arts

Learning Objective:

  • To continue to read an assortment of fairy tales and identify different fairy tale elements.
  • To continue to compare different traditional fairy tales.
  • To be able to sequence events in a fairy tale.
  • To write unusual fairy tales using different fairy tale elements.
  • To consider the various characters and their individual view points from a given perspective.

  • Continue to read different fairy tales and discussed fairy tale elements in class.
  • Introduced the concept of a fractured fairy story by changing the perspective.
  • Compared  fairy tales with the help of a Venn diagram.
  • Sequenced the main events of a story of their choice.
  • Used different story elements to write their own fractured fairy tale.


School Outings and Extras:

This week the students had the opportunity to reflect on their learning at the wonderful star gazing evening.         

We had the opportunity to further investigate patterns in nature by using various measuring tools on Juhu Beach.

We continue to prepare for International Day by researching Asia and our chosen countries.
