Grade 2
Weekly update for Grade 2 @ OIS
Objectives and Learning Engagements:
Literacy
Students will continue to develop their writing
stamina through narrative writing. The children write independently on subjects
interesting and important to them. Students will plan/draft/proofread and
present a near final copy. Students will continue to follow this writing
process by prewriting, drafting and concluding their narrative writing ready
for sharing. Students are given the opportunity to further improve their work
and discuss and appraise their own writing. Also, students will continue to work on
independent writing and developing their individual skills.
Students continue to develop and consolidate their reading
routines to develop enthusiastic, independent, and reflective readers. Our students continue to extend interest in words through discussion of language use and choice. Students accumulate a bank of words by checking spellings/meanings of words and using a dictionary. Students continue to read their books of choice for
longer periods of time through The Daily 5.
Math
Students continue to review number systems and number
names. Students will work on data handling and looking at bar graphs. Learners
will begin to understand how to make a bar graph and develop their undertaking
of data handling using a bar chart and Venn diagrams. They will continue to collect,
record and interpret data within the unit of inquiry increasing the deployment of charts, diagrams, and graphs.
Unit of Inquiry
Building on our guest visitor's, Madhuri
Kudva, fascinating talk on Thursday about maintaining and
developing a healthy life style, students will continue to investigate our unit
of inquiry. Developing the theme that food is needed for energy growth, and a
varied diet is essential to health. We are also looking forward to hearing a talk on Japanese Food and Culture by Avigato Gozaimashita this week. Students will
be able to understand the consequences of choices people make. Learning will occur through discussion work about informed
choices and persuasion through various role-play activities.
