Activity - Booklet making
This week we focused on the writing process and how it relates to communication. Learners were taught what the writing process is, its parts, and how they can use it.
Steps in the Writing Process
Pre-writing:
In this stage students
brainstorm, research, and gather information about their favorite animal.
Drafting:
Students created
their initial composition by writing down all their ideas in an organized way
to convey a particular idea or present an argument
Revising:
Students review,
modify, and reorganize their work by rearranging, adding, or deleting content.
The goal of this phase of the writing process was to improve the draft.
Editing:
At this point in the
writing process, students did proofreading of their writing and corrected the errors
and edit to improve their sentences. Having another writer’s feedback in this
stage was helpful.
Publishing:
In this last step of
the writing process, students did the final writing on their booklet. They pasted a picture related to their topic. They made a cover page for their book and wrote
their experience about their work.
The emphasis was on the
process of writing rather than the finished product, much of the sensitivity
about receiving constructive criticism is eliminated; in fact, comments from
students indicate they love the feedback. By approaching writing as a process, the teacher
encouraged students to postpone closure on a piece of writing until they have
explored all of its
possibilities. Students enjoyed writing!
